The Tortoise and the Hare: Director's Cut

Be content with your lot; one cannot be first in everything – Aesop, Greek fable author

Once upon a time, hare and a tortoise were friends. The hare was very proud of his speed. He always made fun of the tortoise. One day the tortoise became angry and challenged him to run a race. The hare readily accepted the challenge and the race began. The hare ran fast and vary soon he was far ahead of the tortoise. He wanted to take some rest and lay down under a shady tree. He slept and did not wake up soon. But the tortoise kept on moving slowly and steadily. It reached the winning post. When hare woke up he ran as fast as he could. But when he reached the winning post, he was ashamed to see the tortoise already sitting there. Moral: Slow and steady wins the race.
But the story does not end here.

After failure hare thought about the reason and learnt the lesson. He challenged the tortoise to the race again. Tortoise accepted the challenge and race started. This time hare did not take rest before reaching his goal. He reached the winning post and defeated tortoise. The lesson we learnt that one could win if he thought about the reasons and made up his deficiencies.

Now it was a time when tortoise thought about a new plan that how he can win. He got an idea and challenged hare again. But he said that he would decide about the winning post. Hare accepted his condition and started running. The hare ran fast and constantly. But there was a canal in their way. The hare could not cross the canal and sat down sadly. When the tortoise came, it crossed the canal and reached the winning post easily. This time tortoise won the race because of its plan. The lesson we learnt is: Slow can also win because of his talent.

This hare sat calmly and thought a new idea and discussed it with tortoise. This time they decided to help one another and started running, so they could achieve their purpose. The hare carried the tortoise on his back till canal, then tortoise carried the hare on his back and crossed the canal and then again hare carried him on his back to the winning post. Thus they reached the winning place happily.

In the end the moral is that we should help each other because here are many things that we cannot achieve alone and need other's cooperation. We as a nation are facing many challenges, so we should be united to face these challenges because nothing in this world is more powerful than unity. We should not lose heart after failure rather we should face the challenges courageously and think about the reasons behind our failures. Then we should start our journey with new spirit because nothing in this world is unachievable. We just need to think the new ways to reach our destination. One thing we should always keep in mind that nothing in this world is useless and we need others at every step of life.
