Background
Look at the picture
below. What can you see? A baby with a mother, and you can feel the emotions,
compassion and the love of a mother for her child. So what is special about
this picture? The baby is symbolically the 7 billionth baby born in the
World. But does the mother care? To her the baby is worth more than the
7billion minus 1 people around the world. It was April 12, 2011. Time was
11:37PST and I got the computer generated reply from the Newspaper to which I
had submitted my article for the 10th time. Somehow, I remembered
about a friend having a blog and his requesting us to comment on it.
It was a long time ago. So I thought why not try to have my own blog. And
hence, I posted my first blog exactly 1 year ago. Even though there were around 150 million more
blogs already online but still I wanted to have my own. Just like the mother of
the 7 billionth baby loving her child, I love my blog.
Materials and Methods
The the first post that
I put on my blog was "Higher Education on Trial". I did not have
any idea how to make other people read my posts. So I used to ask my friends on
Facebook and through texts to read this thing and after 2 weeks, I got the
first comment on my blog:
"wow
man its really a nice contribution from ur side,,,,,,this is the most excellent
blog that I have read in my life. I am so grateful that I found your blog…
thanks man, I wish your blog lives for a thousand years and more…this is
something not extra but ultra ordinary...:)"
Well, this first comment
was from somebody called Student. In fact it was me who commented on my own
blog with a different name because nobody else was commenting.
I
thought, wow. So I started reading about how to publicize my blog and the best
thing that I read was that I should go around and read other people blogs and
comment. And it starts a whole new vista. From teenagers to bloggers of 60 or
70 years of age, I came across so many different writing styles, themes, prose
and poems, and almost any subject under the sun. it enlightened and broaden my
horizons of knowledge. Helped me better understand the world at large. And the
exercise which I started to attract more visitors, changed into a hobby of
reading other people’s writings.
Results and Discussion
And
inevitably, other people started to pay visit to our blogs (because 3 people
own it, not to be confused with the royal plural). And in the one year I
found some awesome people. I was especially amused by the large number of our
readers from India given the fact that most of the time our relations are warm
as a polar bear. I had a couple of bad experiences on blogger as well. Once I visited
a blog and left a comment and the next thing I got was a total venomous attack.
In my opinion, one must honor the people who find time to visit one’s blog and
should extend every courtesy to them. However, it did not deter me from my aim
of stalking 1 million blogs in 1 year. I wonder if it was not for blogger, we
would have never interacted so much. And as you can see there are more than
5000 living souls visiting our blog from more than 100 different countries. I
value each and every one of your visits and I look forward that you people will
come this year too.
As shown in the following graph, the blog attracted very few visitors in the start and then the number grew with time.
Different posts were viewed differently by the readers. Some posts attracted a lot of comments while others were not so lucky. The following is the list of the 10 most read posts on the blog during the last 1 year.
Top
10 in the Last Year
|
Conclusion
In the last one year,
you people ranked the Top 10 posts on our blog as above. I wish everybody who
will comment on this post can name Top 3 posts that they liked the most on our
blog. I thank you all of you on behalf of the contributors of this blog for
making this a wonderful experience. The thing that I most enjoy on our blog is your comments. So please do comment more and more.
Future
Prospects
As a token of appreciation, I have planned the next
blog for all of you. Hope you would like it just like you did every post on our
blog during the last one year.
Authors’
Contribution
If
you see on the left corner, you will see Contributors. And these are the people
who made this 1 year journey possible. There is Maria Almas, who contributes at
least once a month. She has a distinct style and her posts usually have a
message. And most of the times, there is confusion and people usually
credit me for her posts and each time she has to explain that there are more
than one author on this blog. There is Kiran Shah, who despite not having a
computer or Internet in her home, still tries to write on paper and post it
whenever she gets the chance. Hope you both would contribute more in the 2nd year.
Acknowledgment
Then there is Fatima,
the mastermind behind most of my posts. She is the little creative devil.
Thank you for your inspirational ideas. Hope you would continue to inspire more
this year.
(P.S. I have a lot of catching up to do...please bear with me, i will soon read and comment on your blogs. )
Wow, you're come a long way!!
ReplyDeleteThank you... yes it seems a long long time :)
DeleteOh nice...I always wonder how u analyse things so well!!
ReplyDeletethank you... i am glad you liked :)
DeleteCongratulations for the one year of variety and thought you had shared here. I found this blog quite a different one, hence the read, though i ve skipped few..
ReplyDeleteIf I pick three top posts, I would do so frm my memory and not going through the list and reading them again, it would be more truthful this way. Here are my take aways..
1. You had introduced to me a great man, Abdul Sattar Edhi ( I had to go back to this post now, to get the name) who had to live on the streets for the sake of many lives, and that really gave me a conscience prick. And the best part of it was Mother Pakistan narrating the story. Being an Indian, though I had no special liking for Pakistan, I loved Mother Pakistan and the great men and women there, when I read that.
2. You had beautifully and most lovingly written about a lady lizard in your room. It was hilarious.. I cant remember the title..
3. I enjoyed reading Sherlock Holmes - Part I
Infact I am limiting to three, just because you asked me to.. But i cannot forget to mention the great true theme you had handled in the story of that microbiologist spreading some disease through some lab-made mosquitos.
Happy Birthday and may you have many more, my dear blog!
thank you very much... hahah..yes you could have read from the list anyways ...
Deleteyes that post is my most favourite on our blog... not because it is the best written but because the man is such a great that one cannot remain static after reading about his life and work...i am glad you liked it...
hahaha...yes the poor lady lizard...still in my room :( "The way you make me feel"
i tried sherlock holmes detective fiction and i am glad you liked it...

DeleteHappy bloggie birthday! I'm viewing this on my phone so I can't easily call up my favourite posts but the one that stays in my mind was the story of the scientist with the aim of killing everybody through his work at the lab. It was so original and would make a great novel.

My friend Israr,
ReplyDeleteI'm a little late, but better late than never, right?
Many, many congratulations on your first blogoversary! Look how far you've come. I wouldn't have met you nor come to know your great sense of humor if it were not for blogging. You've put together a wonderful post to celebrate your first year. I wish you continued success and many more years of creative writing. Well done, my friend!
Now for a bit of shameless promotion. ;-)
1) Coming this Saturday May 5th, I am holding my first blog hop called Blog Hop Saturday! You link your blog or blog post, visit as many people in the link & just have fun. Please feel free to spread the word & I hope you and your friends can join me. The link will open from 8:00am-8:00pm EST (Eastern Standard Time).
2) Then, if you'd like to try your hand at some poetry writing again, I'm having another collaboration over at my new blog Lovers' Cove. All you have to do is write one line of 15 words or less, but (this is the challenge part) your line has to continue on from where the previous person left off. The link will open at 2:00pm EST.
Stay well & happy writing!
